A REQUEST FOR A NEW MODERATOR FOR REC.ARTS.MOVIES.REVIEWS

Rotten Tomatoes first volunteered to moderate the rec.arts.movies.reviews newsgroup four years ago after Stephen Graham from the University of Washington decided to retire from moderating, also after four years of moderating. At this point, we're looking to pass on moderator responsibilities to someone else and we're hoping that we can find one of you to volunteer.

As you might know, this newsgroup has a long and rich tradition, being one of the birthplaces of both IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes. It's our hope that this tradition can continue but it can only happen with the help of a volunteer.

The responsbility is minimal. You will need access to posting to USENET (Google Groups is probably a good starting place to do so) and an email account to which you can accept reviews from other RAMR film critics. After this is established, we will make changes so that any reviews posted to RAMR will automatically be directed to your email account. You will then be responsible for simply posting the appropriate reviews to the newsgroup. We are currently getting about 5-10 reviews each day sent to RAMR.

In addition to posting to RAMR, it's been a tradition that the reviews are crossposted to IMDb by emailing reviews to them for their rec.arts.movies.reviews archive. This is not a requirement in order to be the RAMR moderator, but all moderators up till this point have performed this task so that RAMR reviewers may also have their reviews available on IMDb.

Please email stephen (at) rottentomatoes.com if you're interested in assuming this role. Unfortunately, we're going to have to drop this responsibility at Rotten Tomatoes after four years because our need to use our editors in other important areas. Thanks for your attention!
