Night Gallery: The Complete First Season (Unrated, 1969-71) NBC hired Rod Serling
to try to recapture the magic that was The Twilight Zone, but, in the majority of
cases, the episodes in this spooky anthology series fell short.
This three-disc set from Universal Home Entertainment offers the first 20 episodes
of the series as well as the well-received pilot, plus three bonus episodes.
The series is best known for giving a young director named Steven Spielberg one of
his first assignments.
Magic was found in such episodes as the Spielberg-directed Eyes and the
Emmy-winning They're Tearing Down Tim Riley's Bar.
Unfortunately, the set lacks any amenities; no commentary tracks or discussion of
the series is included. Too bad, for that would have made the set even more
precious.
