KILL ME TENDER

RATING (0 TO ****): ** 1/2

In KILL ME TENDER (HAZ CONMIGO LO QUE QUIERAS), Manolo (Alberto San Juan) is a hard working "debt bunny." You know, those guys who dress up in turquoise bunny suits with pink ears and embarrass and harass deadbeats until they pay up. Well, maybe the chain hasn't come to your city yet.

In this wild and wacky Spanish comedy, Maribel (Ingrid Rubio) plays Manolo's girlfriend and partner in crime. Actually, she is more his pimp in that she gets him to do, or try to do, most of her dirty work.

Lately Maribel has been working for the wealthy Mr. Néstor (Emilio Gutiérrez Caba), who owns the local bakery. After his wife died, Mr. Néstor was given a satellite television receiver, which he has been using to brush up on his sex life. Right now, he'd like nothing better than to heat up Maribel's oven. Ángela (Chusa Barbero), Maribel's hooker sister and the wife of Manolo's boss, thinks Maribel should marry old Néstor and give him so much sex that his ticker will stop working.

I've just gotten started on this energetic, crime and sex farce. Your heart will probably be okay afterwards, but you'll leave pretty exhausted by KILL ME TENDER's high-spirited antics.

KILL ME TENDER runs a fast 1:38. The film is in Spanish with English subtitles. It is not rated but would be an R for sex, nudity, language and violence and would be acceptable for older teenagers.

The film was shown as part of San Jose's Cinequest Film Festival (www.Cinequest.org), which ran March 3-14, 2004.
