THE MOMENT
A film review by Steve Rhodes

RATING (0 TO ****): * 1/2

Proving that even short films can be way too long, THE MOMENT takes much longer than its namesake to say little, making fourteen minutes feel like an eternity.

The basically dialog free film features a sick woman in bed who has repetitive dreams of lush fields, derelict buildings and a lover. The scenes are probably intended to possess some powerful messages, but all they produced on our audience was uncontrollable spasms of noisy fidgeting.

In the film's long ending, the lead character walks at a snail's pace across a green field as we observe from a considerable distance. When the ending credits rolled, the groans were audible. Well, at least it was over.

THE MOMENT runs a long 0:14.

The film was shown as part of San Jose's Cinequest Film Festival (www.Cinequest.org), which ran March 3-14, 2004.
