BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM (Fox Home Entertainment) One of the sleeper hits of early 2003 is a fun look at a clash of cultures.
Parminder Nagra's Jess is soccer crazy, but her traditional Sikh parents are appalled by her less-than-feminine attitude, which leads to all manner of conflict until the happy resolution.
The widescreen transfer of this sports-loving movie is exquisite and features a cute behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film, an interesting commentary by director Gurinder Chadha and co-writer Paul Mayeda Berges.
Another amusing extra is entitled "Who Wants to Cook Aloo Gobi," hosted by Chadha and the movie's "Aunties." To better appreciate this featurette, watch it after the film.
Other bonus material include deleted scenes, outtakes, music videos, a recipe gallery and international theatrical trailers, which show how the movie was marketed in different countries.
Bend It Like Beckham is a joyous feature that works very well in the home entertainment format.
