Targets (1968)

TARGETS (Paramount Home Entertainment). This film is renowned as the directorial debut of Peter Bogdanovich, who went to to make The Last Picture Show, What's Up, Doc and Paper Moon.

The movie, inspired by the Texas tower shooting rampage of Charles Whitman, marks one of the final performances of Boris Karloff.

The disc features an interview with Bogdanovich, who reminisces about the challenges he faced making the movie. Some of that information is repeated during his interesting commentary in which he talks about the "guerrilla filmmaking" style he learned from his mentor, Roger Corman, his appreciation and respect for Karloff and his pride in this early work, which he credits with jump-starting his directorial career.

The film's widescreen transfer is excellent. If you are a fan of either Bogdanovich or Karloff, or both, this is a necessary addition to your DVD collection.
