Whole Wide World, The (1996)

THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD (Columbia Pictures Home Entertainment): Robert E. Howard had a personality as big as his home state of Texas and an imagination just as wide.

Set in the late 1930s, The Whole Wide World tells the true story of the rocky and complex love affair between Howard, the pulp writer who created Conan the Barbarian, and schoolteacher/aspiring writer Novalyne Price, on whose memoir the movie is based.

The extras include a conversation between Renee Zellweger, who was a last-minute replacement to play Novalyne, and director Dan Ireland in which they reminisce about the film and their experiences shooting it.

The Whole Wide World is a little-seen gem from 1996, featuring a larger-than-life performance by Vincent D'Onofrio as Howard. If you're a fan of D'Onofrio or Zellweger, in one of her early roles, this DVD is a worthy addition to your collection.
