RATING (0 TO ****): ***

With music video energy and sensibility, ULTIMATE X: THE MOVIE takes you into the hot-dogger world of extreme sports. Originally released on IMAX screens, the transfer to DVD effectively captures the action on a screen smaller than a football field.

The stunts, oops, I mean the sports action is uniformly impressive. On bikes, motorbikes and skateboards, the participants go flying and twirling high in the air.

Between the action segments, the movie cuts to the athletes and to the sport's enthusiastic fans talking about the games. One biker says that everyone involved in extreme sports is "kind of messed up in the head really." Another rider says that the only degree he has is in anger management.

If you're an extreme sports fan, this is probably a must own DVD for you. And if you're not, you still might enjoy this high energy documentary. But if you're not into sports at all or if you're only happy with scoreboard-centric sports, you'll probably want to pass.

ULTIMATE X: THE MOVIE runs 0:39. It is rated PG for "daredevil sports action and mild language" and would be acceptable for all ages.

My son Jeffrey, almost 14, really enjoyed it and gave it *** 1/2. He thought it was fascinating, and he especially liked the way it showed the behind the scenes material about the athletes.

The movie is available now on DVD.
