Thurman 'Ugly' As A Child
7 July 2008 5:02 AM, PDT
Uma Thurman was ugly as a youngster - and admits she was so tall she saw herself as a "mess".
The Kill Bill star reveals she didn't feel attractive when she was a teenager - but is pleased because it meant that she blossomed in to being "all right" as an adult.
She says, "I didn't feel awkward, I was awkward. It's such a cliche, but it's a truism that tall, gangly women who end up all right later in life are always ugly children.
"I was funny-looking. I mean, look at my hands. Imagine having these hands at 12! By the time I was 13, I was easily 5 foot 10 inches (1.78 metres). Can you imagine? That's a mess."
Barnes: 'Caspian Is Based On Prince Harry'
7 July 2008 5:02 AM, PDT
The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian star Ben Barnes based his character on an unlikely source - controversial British royal Prince Harry.
The 26-year-old is the same age as Harry's elder brother Prince William, but admits that Caspian is more like the younger, more laid-back royal.
He says, "Caspian is not a swashbuckling heroic Prince Charming, but Americans expect somebody like that. Their concept of a Prince is Disney - that's all they know.
"But I've grown up with two princes, one my age, one my younger brother's age. Caspian makes mistakes; Harry goes to a party dressed as a Nazi. Caspian does something heroic; Harry goes and fights for his country without telling anyone.
"I think it's interesting that they are real people, making real decisions about their lives, but they have the responsibility that they may or may not want."
The Osbournes To Host New TV Show
7 July 2008 5:02 AM, PDT
The Osbournes are set to return to the small screen as hosts of a new U.S. variety series.
Ozzy, Sharon, Jack and Kelly will host the as-yet-untitled show, which will feature musical performances and comedy sketches - and may even include a segment dubbed The Osbournes Meet the Osbournes, in which the hosts will spend time with another family named Osbourne.
The six-part series, due to launch with a Christmas special, will also see former Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy "skewering pop culture" and will play up the sibling rivalry between 23-year-old Kelly and her brother Jack, 22, reports Daily Variety.
Mike Darnell, Fox Network's President of Alternative Programming, says, "We've been talking about how to renew the variety show concept and make it feel new for years now."
The Osbournes first made names for themselves as a clan with the worldwide success of their 2002 MTV reality show The Osbournes.
Since then, the family has made several ventures into TV presenting, with matriarch Sharon judging America's Got Talent and the first four seasons of British singing competition The X Factor.
Thrill-seeker Jack has his own U.K. show, Jack Osbourne: Adrenaline Junkie, while Kelly is the host of Project Catwalk, the British version of hit U.S. fashion design series Project Runway.
Brosnan Forgot Mamma Mia! Fee
7 July 2008 5:02 AM, PDT
Actor Pierce Brosnan was so excited about sharing a screen with Meryl Streep and Julie Walters in Mamma Mia! he forgot to negotiate his wages for the film.
Brosnan, 55, was so keen to star with the veteran actresses that he neglected to ask producers how much money he would be paid.
He says, "I didn't even ask how much. I just said I would do it.
"Working with Julie and Meryl was immense. I am a huge fan of both ladies and we had the best of times together.
Streep Slams Male Stars Over Surgery
7 July 2008 5:02 AM, PDT
Veteran actress Meryl Streep has hit out at male stars who have plastic surgery in a bid to retain their youthful looks - insisting they should give up and "embrace getting older".
The 59-year-old claims she has always resisted the temptation to go under the knife, but is worried about the growing number of actors who are looking to surgeons for a helping hand with their appearance.
She says, "You'd be amazed how many men in the industry have gone down that road. I don't get it. I think you have to embrace getting older and celebrate life."
And Streep insists she is actually more secure in her work now that she is no longer considered a Hollywood beauty.
She adds, "The good thing about getting older is that when they do cast you it's often something interesting - you're no longer asked to be the beautiful leading lady.
"You're allowed to do different things. I've had some very interesting parts over the past few years in films that examine all the idiosyncrasies people have."
De Niro Warns Against Strike
7 July 2008 5:02 AM, PDT
Hollywood star Robert De Niro has urged his fellow Screen Actors Guild (SAG) members not to strike over forthcoming negotiations for a new deal with studio bosses.
The threat of a walkout hangs over Tinseltown as the SAG union appears poised to reject a three-year contract proposed by The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).
The wrangle now centres around actors' concerns over royalty payments for appearances on the internet.
But De Niro warns that the moment for strike action is not right, as the general world climate is suffering.
Speaking at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic on Friday, the Raging Bull actor said: "I do not think it is a good time to be striking.
"All the trade unions are affected by the strike. With the economy as it is at this time, it does not seem to be a great idea."
The Screen Actors Guild is expected to respond to a new offer on Monday following reported negotiations between both sides on Wednesday.
Brosnan's Son Is 'Clean'
7 July 2008 12:32 AM, PDT

He says, "I think Chris is doing well. The boys are all right, they are keeping up and getting their lives in order."
Chris' mother was Brosnan's first wife Cassandra Harris. The actor also adopted Harris' daughter, Charlotte, and the couple parented son Sean. Brosnan has two more children, Dylan and Paris, with present spouse Keely.
Cleese Could Lose Property In Divorce Battle
7 July 2008 12:32 AM, PDT
Monty Python star John Cleese will lose his New York apartment and plush London home in a bitter divorce battle, according to the actor's pal Michael Winner.
The actor is currently divorcing estranged spouse Alyce Faye Eichelberger Cleese.
He was forced in May to pay her $150,000 (GBP75,000) a month in temporary maintenance fees. And it is believed Eichelberger is now demanding two houses, half of Cleese's earnings since 1992, plus further maintenance dues of $1.8 million (GBP900,000) per year, claiming she has no money of her own.
And film director Winner fears his friend will lose his fortune and property empire.
He says, "Until the divorce is settled, she's on GBP900,000-a-year maintenance, plus use of a beach house in Santa Barbara and other properties. Not bad for a 15-year marriage that did not produce any children.
"I remembered his wife saying to me during a previous marriage wobble, 'I'm going to take John for all I can. He won't know what's hit him.'
"Well, he does now."

7 July 2008 12:32 AM, PDT
Actress Julie Walters has confessed she was more nervous about meeting her Mamma Mia! co-star Meryl Streep than British monarch Queen Elizabeth II.
The 58-year-old met the royal when receiving her Commander of the Order of the British Empire honour earlier this year.
But the experience was nowhere near as nerve-wracking as being introduced to Streep.
She says, "I felt like I was meeting the Queen. Actually I have met the Queen and I was more nervous meeting Meryl.
"In my view she is a big deal in films as the likes of say Bette Davis and Katharine Hepburn."

Sugar Downplays Reports He "Cheated Death"
7 July 2008 12:32 AM, PDT
British tycoon Sir Alan Sugar escaped unscathed after crash-landing his aircraft in Manchester, England this weekend (beg05Jul08) - but refutes reports he ever "cheated death".
The Apprentice star played down reports he could have been seriously injured when his light plane crashed at an airfield on Saturday.
His four-seat Cirrus SR20 hit a rut as it overshot the runway and damaged the propeller at Barton Aerodrome near Manchester.
But the wealthy mogul denies the incident put him in danger.
He says, "We landed and ran over the end of the slippery runway by about 15 feet into some taller grass.
"In doing so, the propeller of the plane picked up some minor damage and, according to the rules, this means the plane can't fly unless checked out by a qualified engineer, of which there were none available.
"As far as 'life-threatening' is concerned, to put things in perspective, my friend and I had as much chance of dying from the incident as we did in dying from food poisoning from the tuna sandwich that a very nice lady made us in the clubhouse whilst we waited for a mate to pick us up and take us home."
