Everyone has, at one time or another, thought of the perfect thing to say... ten minutes too late. That's what's nice about being the main character in certain movies. You always have something witty on the tip of your tongue right when it's appropriate. Point in case: Fletch. The plot is not particularly new or original (and a far cry from the Gregory McDonald novel upon which it was loosely based), but it's got a great, irreverent, wisecracking hero with little respect for anyone or anything, including himself, and who's always got a quick rejoinder. As investigative journalist Irwin Fletcher, Chevy Chase comes armed with great one-liners, snappy comebacks, and a talent for bamboozling and befuddling, making for some memorable quotes and a very funny film.
